Our History

Our supermarket was born in 1934, when a 31-year-old fur and pecan trader, E.W. James, bought a small grocery store in Hickman, Kentucky. His business quickly began to grow within Hickman and beyond, thanks to his dedication to customer service, family, and hard work. Each of Mr. James' four children, and grandchildren have been involved in the business over the years and are still involved today.

Through the years, E.W. James & Sons Supermarkets have continued to grow, and today has 8 E.W. James & Sons Supermarkets, 3 Save-A-Lot stores, 2 CashSaver stores, a Subway and The Calla Lilly Collection at the Union City store. The company is headquartered in Union City, Tennessee and is led by a management team of outstanding individuals, many of whom have been promoted through the ranks.

Mr. E.W. James' "secret of success" was simply "the sale is not final until the meal is enjoyed." This idea is still alive today in every E.W. James Supermarket, where customer service and satisfaction are our foremost goal.  Please visit www.ewjamesandsons.com to learn more about our departments and services.
